The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) recently updated stakeholder Association's on the progress towards regulatory changes for the Permit to Take Water (PTTW) approvals process. The Ministry has now considered all of the submissions made during the late-Spring consultation on its Technical Papers around this issue and is moving forward with a number of regulatory change proposals. MOECC PowerPoint outlining the changes is attached to this Bulletin.

While the process is continuing to move forward slowly, work on regulatory changes signals the final step in reforming the existing PTTW process. While it does not address all of the reforms that we have been asking for, it will make significant strides in lightening the administrative burden for obtaining a permit for a number of construction dewatering activities. It will also reduce the Ministry's approvals burden, which should speed up approvals for the larger water-taking activities that will still require permits.
