City of Toronto – Work Restrictions During FIFA World Cup

The City of Toronto and Toronto Hydro are putting in place construction-related work restrictions during the FIFA World Cup that will have significant impacts for projects across the City.

The City’s initial proposal includes a restriction period from May 1 to July 31, which will impact:

· Right-of-way road activity;

· Construction deliveries and site logistics;

· Toronto Hydro work, including service connections;

· Arterial and major road work; and,

· Other related construction operations

GTSWCA, along with industry partners, have engaged with senior City officials and Toronto Hydro to raise concerns and advocate for practical, workable adjustments.

Summary of Original Proposed Restrictions:

· Timeframe: May 1–July 31, 2026

· Restricted Zone: South of Bloor Street to the lake, between Sherbourne Street and Lansdowne Avenue, including key north-south corridors

· Project Impact: No roadwork permitted, including lane closures for construction logistics

· Deliveries & Access: Deliveries expected to pause around game days (June 11–July 3), though staging areas may remain

· Major Routes Affected: Parkside Drive, Roncesvalles Avenue, and portions of Dufferin, Bathurst, Avenue, Broadview, and Yonge Street
