In a news conference this morning, provincial NDP Leader Andrea Horwath stated that her party will no longer support the Liberal minority government. In her statement, Horwath indicated that the NDP will categorically vote down the budget and any confidence motion that arises as a result, as the budget “…is not a solid plan for the future, it’s a mad dash to escape the scandals by promising the moon and the stars.â€Â￾ PC Leader Tim Hudak had previously announced that his Party would also not be supporting the Liberal Budget.

Because Premier Wynne and the Liberal Party only hold a minority government, they require the support of one of the other two political parties in the province in order to pass a budget through the Legislature. Without support, the government is required to call a general election.

The decision is now with Wynne whether to drop the writ or put the Budget to vote in the Legislature. Either way, it appears that we are headed to the polls for a mid-June election.
